Xiaomi withdraws around 117,000 SU7 vehicles due to a fatal collision that highlights safety issues
The Chinese technology giant, Xiaomi, has announced a recall of 116,877 Xiaomi SU7 electric vehicles produced between February 6, 2024, and August 30, 2025. The recall was initiated by the State Administration for Market Regulation on Friday, following technical issues identified in the Xiaomi SU7 vehicles.
The recall will be addressed through an over-the-air software update, as Xiaomi develops a solution in-house. The company plans to upgrade the Xiaomi HyperOS system to version 1.10.0 to fix the issue.
The Xiaomi SU7 electric vehicles are fully electric SUVs, and the recall affects all 116,877 units produced during the specified period. It is worth noting that most self-driving systems available in mainland China, including the ones equipped in the Xiaomi SU7 vehicles, are either L2 or L2+. These systems require drivers to keep their hands on the wheel at all times.
Despite the recall, Xiaomi's shares closed at HK$56.70 on Friday, experiencing a decrease of less than 0.3%. The company remains optimistic about the future, with plans to continue innovating and improving its products.
As the situation develops, Xiaomi will provide updates and instructions for the affected vehicle owners. The company is committed to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of its customers.
