Xbox's upcoming ROG Xbox Ally portable gaming consoles due for release soon (updated)
The gaming world is abuzz with excitement as Microsoft and ASUS have collaborated to introduce two new handheld gaming consoles: the Xbox Ally and the Xbox Ally X. Scheduled for release on Thursday, October 16, these devices aim to offer an immersive gaming experience for Xbox fans.
The new handhelds share a 7-inch 1080p display with a 120Hz refresh rate, similar to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This high-resolution, smooth display promises an engaging visual experience for gamers.
Two versions of the Xbox-branded Asus ROG Ally have been revealed: the ROG Xbox Ally and the ROG Xbox Ally X. The base model, the ROG Xbox Ally, comes equipped with 16GB RAM, 512GB storage, and a 60Wh battery. On the other hand, the Ally X boasts a more advanced specification with 24GB RAM, 1TB storage, and an 80Wh battery.
Both devices take the basic concept of the original ROG Ally and adapt it for Xbox players by adding controller-like grips and a new user interface. The central UI will consolidate all of your games across every app into one place, offering a seamless gaming experience.
The Xbox Ally is powered by an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor, while the Ally X has a more advanced Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor with a built-in NPU. These processors promise smooth gameplay and quick loading times.
The Ally X supports features like highlight reels and Automatic Super Resolution, previously exclusive to certain Copilot+ PCs. These added features enhance the gaming experience, offering crisp visuals and the ability to capture and share your most epic moments.
While the Xbox Ally appears to be a better value proposition compared to a Steam Deck, its pricing is yet to be revealed. Consumers can sign up to get notified when both handhelds are available at Best Buy and the Microsoft Store.
It's worth noting that the Xbox Ally does not have the ability to play Mario Kart World, which is exclusive to certain gaming handhelds.
Preorders for the Xbox Ally handhelds are now available at Best Buy. However, pricing and preorder details for both handhelds are still weeks away.
The Xbox Ally consoles are a potential alternative for avid Xbox Game Pass users due to the full suite of Game Pass features. With these handhelds, you can take your gaming library with you wherever you go.
Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the release date. Whether you're a casual gamer or a hardcore Xbox fan, the Xbox Ally and Ally X are set to redefine portable gaming.
