Wizz Air Boosts Safety with Real-Time GPS Interference Detection
Wizz Air, a leading European low-cost airline, has bolstered its operational safety and efficiency by implementing real-time GPS interference detection. This innovative feature, integrated into its Lido mPilot navigation solution, is powered by GPSwise from SkAI Data Services and enables swift decision-making through fleet monitoring and daily reports.
The GPS Interference Detection feature, developed in collaboration with the Zurich University of Applied Sciences – Centre for Aviation, continuously monitors and mitigates GPS jamming and spoofing risks in real time. This proactive approach ensures the safety of Wizz Air's 243-strong fleet of Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, which served 62.8 million passengers in 2024.
Andreas Medlhammer, Product Owner Lido Charting Applications at Lufthansa Systems, underscored the importance of timely detection of GPS interference. Diarmuid O Conghaile, Chief Operations Officer of Wizz Air, praised the real-time interference identification enhancement for its safety and operational advantages. Wizz Air's long-standing trust in Lufthansa Systems' Lido navigation solutions made the integration of this feature a natural progression.
Wizz Air's integration of real-time GPS interference detection into its Lido mPilot navigation solution, powered by GPSwise, ensures pilots receive immediate updates during flights. This proactive measure enhances safety and operational efficiency, further solidifying Wizz Air's commitment to technological advancements in aviation.
