Windsor-Detroit Tunnel's Nexpress System Down: Users Facing Excessive Charges
The Windsor-Detroit Tunnel Corporation has been grappling with technical issues since Monday, leaving the Nexpress system offline and causing confusion for users. The system, which allows prepaid account holders to pay for tunnel crossings, experienced a 'computer glitch' that resulted in multiple charges for a single trip.
The corporation's CEO, Tal Czudner, attributed the problem to a data migration process between the US and Canada. This process led to excessive charges for Nexpress customers, with some banks even shutting down transactions. Despite the issue persisting into Tuesday, the corporation has yet to reverse the incorrect charges. During the system's downtime, all users are being charged the Nexpress rate of $5.90 CAD, a discount from the normal credit/debit fee of $7.75 CAD.
The Windsor-Detroit Tunnel Corporation continues to work on fixing the Nexpress problem. Affected customers are advised to monitor their accounts and contact their PNC Bank, Citizens Bank, or US Bank if they notice any incorrect charges. The corporation has not yet provided a timeline for when the system will be fully operational again.
