Which PETG Printer to Choose: Elegoo Rapid PETG and PETG Pro Both Offer Equivalent Cost and Specifications, Making the Purchase Decision Difficult

In the world of 3D printing, choosing the right filament can be a daunting task, especially when it comes to Elegoo's PETG offerings – the Pro and Rapid versions. While both filaments share the same price tag, there are distinct differences that make one stand out.

Firstly, the Rapid PETG is designed for higher extrusion speeds, reaching up to 600 mm/s. This speed advantage is beneficial for faster printing times and increased productivity, making it more suitable for applications where speed is crucial.

Secondly, the Rapid PETG outperformed the Pro version in tests, particularly in tensile break and layer adhesion tests. These results indicate better mechanical strength and bonding between layers, which is important for prints that require durability and stability.

Across various tests, including temperature towers, tensile tests, and more, the Rapid PETG either matched or surpassed the performance of the PETG Pro. This suggests that it offers reliable consistency in different printing conditions.

However, the Rapid PETG has higher moisture sensitivity compared to the Pro version. While this may seem like a disadvantage, for most users, the benefits of faster printing and better mechanical properties outweigh the slight disadvantage in moisture resistance.

The Pro version does have two advantages in these tests: less moisture sensitivity and reduced stringing risk. Whether these advantages are sufficient to make it preferable to the Rapid version is not explicitly stated in the tests.

Dr. Igor Gaspar, a well-known figure in the 3D printing community, tested both Elegoo PETG 'Pro' and 'Rapid' filaments on his My Tech Fun YouTube channel. The Rapid PETG either matched or beat the Pro PETG in further tests, including a layer adhesion test.

It's worth noting that the Pro version comes with a luxury cardboard spool featuring closed edges, which might appeal to some users.

The tests were designed to determine if there is a reason to prefer one filament over the other, even for specific applications. While the Rapid PETG may have the edge in terms of performance, the choice ultimately depends on the user's specific needs and preferences.

1) In terms of performance, the Elegoo Rapid PETG outperforms the Pro version in several tests, particularly in aspects such as tensile break and layer adhesion, making it more suitable for applications requiring durability and speed.

2) Despite having higher moisture sensitivity compared to the Pro version, the Rapid PETG's benefits, including faster printing times and better mechanical properties, often outweigh the slight disadvantage in moisture resistance for most users.
