In a significant move towards advancing the financial industry, Deutsche Bank, a global powerhouse in the banking sector, has announced its participation in Project Guardian - a multi-year collaboration led by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) together with global policymakers such as the United Kingdom’s FCA, Switzerland’s FINMA, and Japan’s FSA.

The bank's Asia Pacific Head of Securities & Technology Advocacy and Industry Applied Innovation Lead, Boon-Hiong Chan, will lead Deutsche Bank's efforts in Project Guardian. The bank will closely work with Memento Blockchain, a decentralized finance and hyper-chain zero-knowledge specialist, with whom it previously executed the proof-of-concept DAMA 1 in 2023.

Deutsche Bank will also collaborate with Interop Labs, the initial developer of the Axelar network (a Web3 interoperability platform), for Project Guardian. Mike Clarke, Global Head of Securities Services Product Management, emphasized the importance of collaborating with leading fintechs and digital natives to create technologically advanced asset servicing products.

The bank's new efforts will deliver DAMA 2, an open architecture and interoperable blockchain platform to service tokenized and digital funds. This platform is designed to test the potential of real-world applications in tokenized cash and securities settlements within regulated frameworks.

Deutsche Bank aims to contribute to industry progress by proposing protocol standards and identifying best practices. Anand Rengarajan, Head of Securities Services for Asia Pacific and the Middle East and Global Head of Sales, stated the bank's commitment to being a leader in driving the development and adoption of digital assets in Singapore and Asia Pacific.

Project Guardian is not just a theoretical exercise. It has advanced beyond conceptual exploration to active experimentation, with major banks like DBS, HSBC, and Standard Chartered participating in tokenizing cash and assets for payment and settlement purposes. The project is aligned with similar initiatives worldwide and explores integrating tokenized bank deposits and digital cash to improve cross-border financial transactions, aiming to reduce settlement times and enhance transparency.

Deutsche Bank's participation in Project Guardian underscores its commitment to innovation and its role as a trailblazer in the digital asset space. By collaborating with leading fintechs, regulatory authorities, and other banks, Deutsche Bank is poised to make significant contributions to the development and adoption of digital assets, particularly in Singapore and the Asia Pacific region.
