USPS Acquires Canoo's Right-Handed Large Delivery Vehicle and Contracts Canoo for Kingbee Supplies
The United States Postal Service (USPS) is set to receive six battery-electric vehicles from Canoo Inc., as part of the postal service's $40 billion investment strategy to electrify and modernize its delivery fleet.
Canoo, an innovative electric vehicle (EV) company, has announced the acquisition of manufacturing assets at a discounted price for its Oklahoma City facility. The discounted price exceeds 80 percent of the estimated value of the purchased assets, which include robotics, controls processing equipment, and vehicle cabin construction equipment.
Canoo's CEO, Anthony Aquila, commented on the acquisition, praising the multi-purpose platform with steer-by-wire technology and a unique low-profile suspension system. The company is participating as a potential supplier in the electrification and modernization of the USPS's delivery fleet.
The vehicles for USPS will leverage Canoo's patented technologies for enhanced functionality, safety, and ergonomics. The U.S. Postal Service will receive the six right-hand drive versions of the Canoo LDV 190 in Q1 2024.
Charging stations, similar to those unveiled at the South Atlanta Sorting and Delivery Center (S&DC), will be installed at hundreds of new S&DCs across the country throughout the year. These charging stations will power what will be the nation's largest electric vehicle fleet.
Canoo's mission is to bring EVs to everyone. In addition to supplying vehicles to the USPS, the company has also partnered with Kingbee, a national work-ready van rental provider, who will begin using Canoo LDV 130 vehicles in its fleet. Canoo delivered vehicles to Kingbee as part of a phased ramp-up manufacturing approach in Oklahoma City, with additional customer deliveries scheduled through 2024.
Canoo has developed breakthrough EVs that are reinventing the automotive landscape with pioneering technologies, unique design, and a business model spanning multiple owners across the full lifecycle of the vehicle. The company has teams in California, Texas, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
Canoo continues to explore ways to acquire high-value equipment at reduced prices through alternative routes. This strategic approach is expected to help the company scale manufacturing for additional customer deliveries in 2024. With the USPS partnership and other initiatives, Canoo is poised to make a significant impact in the EV market.
