New PS5 Update Enables DualSense Controller Multi-Device Pairing

Sony has announced a significant update for the PlayStation 5 (PS5) that will revolutionise the way users interact with their DualSense controllers. The update, set to roll out soon, will allow the DualSense controller to be paired with up to four devices simultaneously1.

Previously, a DualSense controller could only be paired with one device at a time, requiring users to re-pair the controller with each subsequent device2. This limitation is now a thing of the past, as the update will enable the DualSense wireless controller to connect wirelessly to more than one device at a time3.

To pair a device with the DualSense controller, users need to press and hold the PS button and one of the four face buttons on the controller. The controller's light bar will blink once to indicate the current slot, blinking between one and four times to represent the available slots4. Once paired, users can switch between these registered devices easily without needing to re-pair each time.

The new system software beta for PS5 is available to invited participants from July 24th, with a wider rollout coming later. The update is expected to address a long-standing limitation of the DualSense controller, providing a more convenient experience for users who want to use their DualSense controller across multiple platforms5.

Examples of devices that can be paired with the DualSense controller include a PS5, PC, Mac, tablet, and phone6. Moreover, the DualSense controller can be hot swapped between two separate PS5 consoles (standard model and PS5 Pro)7.

In addition to the multi-device pairing feature, the update will introduce a Power Saver mode. This mode, part of Sony's "Road to Zero" environmental plan, will scale back the performance in supported games once activated8.

The update will be available for both PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles, enhancing the overall user experience and fostering a more connected gaming environment. Stay tuned for more updates on the PS5 system software update.

With the upcoming PS5 update, the DualSense controller can now pair with multiple devices, enabling gamers to use it across several platforms such as smartphones and tablets, in addition to the PS5 itself. Previously, the DualSense controller could only be paired with one device at a time, but now, it can connect wirelessly to up to four gadgets including smartphones, making technology optimization more enjoyable for users.
