Upcoming Honda Ridgeline Garners Sunlight Spotlight in Next Generation
The automotive world is abuzz with excitement as Honda prepares to unveil the next-generation Ridgeline, a pickup truck that's poised to make a significant leap forward.
According to recent reports, Honda is set to introduce an electrified powertrain to the next-generation Ridgeline, a move that aligns with the company's broader strategy of advancing electrification. This new powertrain will combine turbocharged engines with electric motors, and Honda is also developing solid-state battery technology to support the widespread adoption of such powertrains across its lineup.
One possibility for the Ridgeline's electrified powertrain is the use of a hybrid or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system. This could potentially result in a $65,000 price tag for the next-generation Ridgeline, a figure that has raised some concerns. However, the potential benefits, such as improved off-road towing capability and smoother power delivery, could outweigh the cost.
Meanwhile, the new Passport TrailSport has already hit the scene, boasting a stiffer structure, wider track, longer wheelbase, and off-road-tuned suspension. It also features a TrailWatch camera system, thick steel skid plates, and a new i-VTM4 all-wheel drive system. The 2025 Ridgeline TrailSport, which has already been tested, shares many of these features, including all-terrain tires, a retuned suspension, and the i-VTM4 torque-vectoring AWD system.
The Ridgeline, first introduced in 2005, has always been Honda's unique effort in the pickup truck world. Despite its strengths, such as a weather-sealed in-bed trunk and a dual-action tailgate, it has not achieved the recognition it deserves, often overshadowed by more traditional offerings. The next-generation Ridgeline could change this, potentially being transformed into a legit backcountry contender with features like true approach/departure angles, beefy recovery points, wheel flares, and all-terrain tires.
The second-generation Ridgeline, which arrived in 2017, saw improvements in ride quality, interior space, and towing ability. The new model is expected to build upon these improvements, potentially delivering off-road credibility and mechanical swagger.
The base Sport model of the current Ridgeline retails for almost $55,000, while the TrailSport model can reach nearly $58,500 with fees. The interior of the 2025 Ridgeline TrailSport features orange contrast stitching, a new touchscreen, updated gauge cluster, and a wider center console.
Under the hood, the 2.0L Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder from the Accord Hybrid could be used with a turbocharger in the next Ridgeline, potentially offering over 275 hp and 325 lb-ft. Another possibility is electrifying the V6 engine for even more power and efficiency.
As we eagerly await the debut of the next-generation Ridgeline, it's clear that Honda is aiming to create a pickup truck that's not just capable off-road, but also comfortable and confident on the road. The 2025 Ridgeline TrailSport, with its all-terrain tires, steel skid plates, and i-VTM4 AWD system, demonstrates the potential for further improvement. Whether a hybrid or PHEV powertrain will be the final choice remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the next-generation Ridgeline is shaping up to be a game-changer in the pickup truck market.
