Upcoming Games Lift 2023: Promoted Teams Announced
Gamecity Hamburg, the city's hub for digital games, is gearing up for an exciting year as it celebrates its 20th anniversary. The organisation's official website can be found at gamecity-hamburg.de.
Recently, the media has been buzzing about the future direction of Gamecity Hamburg's Media Hub, as discussed in a recent article titled "Where is Hamburg's Media Hub Headed?".
One of the key highlights of the year is the selection of five projects and teams for the Games Lift Incubator 2023, which is set to begin on September 11. This one-year workshop and mentoring program offers 15,000 euros in funding to promising game developers.
Among the selected projects is "Map Map - A Game about Maps", an exploration game with puzzle elements set in a relaxed hiking atmosphere, created by Kopfkino Games. Another intriguing project is "We the Valarii", a cooperative couch racer with shared challenges and boss battles, designed by Bagpack Games from Rothlein.
"Dottobeau", developed by a team through the University of Applied Sciences Hamburg (HAW), is a classic point-and-click adventure where mood changes solve tricky puzzles. Another captivating project is "Journey Beyond the Edge of the World", an atmospheric adventure told through five musical pieces, playable from the main character's perspective.
Gamecity Hamburg also funds six digital game prototypes, with up to 120,000 euros per game through the Prototype Funding. One of the selected game projects is "Chaos Royale" by Monodot from Belgium, a fast-paced, free-to-play shooter with fantastical characters.
Ole Schaper, CEO and co-founder of Sviper, is a decision-maker in the program and has expressed admiration for the talent and dedication of the game developers. The identities of the five teams supported by Games Lift Incubator 2023 have not been explicitly named, and the starting date of the mentoring program is not mentioned either.
For those interested in applying for the Prototype Funding, the next application round starts in spring 2024. Gamecity Hamburg continues to support local game projects with an annual 400,000 euros through the Prototype Funding.
Stay tuned for more updates from Gamecity Hamburg as they continue to shape the future of digital games in Hamburg.
