Unveiling of online registration system for migrant laborers
The Department of Employment in Thailand has launched a revamped digital system for processing migrant workers' employment permits. This modernised platform aims to deliver a more efficient, transparent, and cost-effective service, reflecting Thailand's adaptation to evolving domestic and international labor dynamics.
The new system features a fully digitalised platform that allows online registration, 24/7 submission of applications, fee payment, and real-time tracking of application progress. It integrates biometric technologies for secure and accurate identity verification, using fingerprint and iris scans.
The key benefits of this initiative include modernization and streamlining of work permit services, reducing bureaucratic burdens and paperwork. The project also promotes increased efficiency, transparency, and cost-effectiveness through private sector involvement in accepting applications, notifying authorities, and producing permits.
The government's digital transformation policy and Thailand’s 20-Year National Strategy are supported by this project, which aims to improve public service delivery. The project is being carried out under strict government oversight to ensure good governance and the protection of labor rights.
The department will establish 40 work permit service centres nationwide, including seven in Bangkok and 33 in other provinces. Eight mobile units will also be established for added convenience. Users can schedule appointments at preferred service centres and collect work permits in person once approved.
The private sector will handle key responsibilities such as accepting applications, notifying authorities of employment, and producing work permits. This outsourcing service project is aimed at delivering more efficient, transparent, and cost-effective services. The service is set to begin operations on September 1, 2025.
