Calrec Unveils Enhanced Argo Consoles at IBC 2025

Calrec, a leading audio solutions provider, is showcasing its award-winning Argo S console at IBC 2025 with a new v1.4 software update. The update introduces a host of usability, customisation, and system enhancements across the entire Argo range, aimed at improving workflow flexibility and operational efficiency for broadcasters adapting to dynamic environments.

The key new features for the Argo S console include:

  • Flexible immersive spill: This feature allows multi-channel sources to be controlled on a single fader but expanded onto more faders for fine control. Spill faders can be placed anywhere on the control surface, on any layer, and in any position, freeing up space and adapting the workspace to individual operator needs.
  • Duplicated control elements: Operators can use any panel to access inputs and controls, improving redundancy and operational flexibility.
  • Fader scrolling functionality: This adds an additional layer of protection by allowing operators to scroll through inputs and controls, enhancing usability and minimizing errors.
  • Optional AoIP IO modules: These can be fitted directly into the console sections, offering a variety of input/output options. This integration increases cable efficiency and saves space by reducing the need for external racks.
  • Robust broadcast uptime features: Argo includes SMPTE hitless packet merging and a second layer of hardware redundancy built into the console, ensuring reliable broadcast performance.
  • True Control 2.0 integration: This provides bi-directional control and connectivity across multiple interconnected Argo consoles, supporting flexible workflow combinations and cloud connectivity to help broadcasters develop more content while reducing costs.

In addition to the Argo S console, Calrec is also showcasing the Argo M, a new compact console that delivers the same feature set as the established Argo platform. The Argo M comes in a 24 and 36-fader compact footprint, designed to maximize desk space. It features full-sized fader strips with wild controls for demanding productions. The console is a high-performance plug-and-play control surface with a full range of ST2110 and cloud connectivity.

The new v1.4 Argo software introduces an enhanced routing strip functionality, allowing users to see every fader's routing simultaneously on the touchscreen. Users can now switch rows of physical controls to other strip modes such as EQ, Dyn or Pan. The update also allows users to select a different output when a fader is closed compared to when it's open.

The Argo M can connect to ImPulse, ImPulse1, and ImPulseV for additional external DSP paths. It also supports DAW control of MIDI on the Argo platform and makes improvements to NMOS Control, status updates, and monitoring, and interfacing with Calrec Connect. The update streamlines the Mix Minus workflow, allowing users to select any bus to send to a channel's mix minus output.

Argo Q now supports two sets of custom wild panels per section with the new software update. The Argo M can connect to an ST2110 networked environment, an existing Calrec ImPulse core, and other Argo surfaces. Calrec is also introducing a new Tiles feature that allows users to customize their up-stand meter layouts to add thumbnails with the updated Argo software.
