The tech world is abuzz with anticipation for the upcoming Xiaomi 15 Ultra, a device that promises to be a formidable competitor in the smartphone market. Scheduled to launch in China at approximately Rs 78,000 (CNY 6,499), the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is set to challenge the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra boasts a sophisticated quad rear camera system, inspired by classic Leica cameras. The system consists of:

  1. A 50 MP primary wide-angle camera with a Sony LYT-900 1" CMOS sensor, ƒ/1.6 aperture, and optical image stabilization (OIS).
  2. A 50 MP ultra-wide camera using a Samsung S5KJN5 1/2.76" CMOS sensor with ƒ/2.2 aperture.
  3. A 50 MP telephoto lens featuring a Sony IMX858 1/2.51" CMOS sensor, ƒ/1.8 aperture, supporting up to 3x optical zoom and 120x digital zoom.
  4. A high-resolution 200 MP telephoto/portrait sensor with a Samsung ISOCELL HP9 1/1.4" ISOCELL sensor, ƒ/2.6 aperture, and 0.56 µm pixel size.

This versatile setup promises enhanced zoom performance and exceptional clarity, especially in low-light conditions. The 200MP periscope telephoto lens, with a 100mm focal length equivalent, is a standout feature, offering advanced telephoto options for zoom and portrait photography.

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra also supports dual-LED flash, optical stabilization, and advanced video features. Users can look forward to 8K video recording at 30fps, 4K at up to 120fps, multiple slow-motion modes, Ultra Night Video, and professional video modes with Video Log format.

The front camera is a 32 MP in-display sensor with f/2.0 aperture, HDR, portrait mode, and supports 4K video recording at 30/60fps. It also offers slow-motion selfie and time-lapse features.

Other key features of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra include a 5410 mAh battery with 90W wired charging and 80W wireless charging, an AMOLED display with a peak brightness of up to 3200 nits, and a powerful chipset, typically expected for flagship 2025 Xiaomi models.

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is also rumoured to feature a dual-tone back panel, combining glass and vegan leather, and a 6.73-inch 2K micro quad-curved display.

In partnership with Leica, Xiaomi is introducing the "Summicron Ultra-Pure Optical System" on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. The Indian launch of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is scheduled for March 2, 2025, but the official Indian prices remain uncertain.

With its impressive camera capabilities, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is shaping up to be a flagship device with highly versatile photographic capabilities, especially notable for its inclusion of a 200 MP sensor and advanced telephoto options for zoom and portrait photography.
