I struggled a bit today, but got lucky. The word CLOUD left me with 28 words left. I wanted a second word with 'A', but couldn't think of anything sensible. I went with FLUSH (poker evening came to mind since we'd played poker during our last game night). Three green boxes appeared. Still lots of words in my head, so I went with GNOME (disregarding the 'O' which had already gone) and this worked wonders. Only FLUNG was left. But Wordle Bot informed me that if it had been FLUTE, two possible solutions could have remained after GNOME. Glad it wasn't FLUTE; that would have been an awful FLUKE!
Competitive Wordle Score
I get 0 points for guessing in 4 rounds. Lost to the Bot this time, who managed to guess in 3. Oh well, there's always tomorrow!
How to Play Competitive Wordle
- Guess in round 1 to bag 3 points; guess in round 2 to get 2 points; guess in round 3 to grab 1 point; guess in round 4 to earn 0 points; guess in round 5 to lose 1 point; guess in round 6 and bid adieu to 2 points; and if you miss the Wordle, say goodbye to 3 points.
- If you triumph over your opponent, flourish with 1 point. If the scores are equal, joint celebration. Losing graciously, you receive -1 point. Keep the daily running score or enjoy a fresh start each day.
- The Fridays double the points, meaning double your points! Positive or negative, remember to add it to your tally.
- Indulge in the daily race or maintain a weekly record. Cheers!
Wordle's Etymology
'Flung' is the past tense and past participle of 'fling', which means to throw with force. Tracing its roots back to Old Norse 'flengja', meaning "to whip" or "to beat", 'fling' evolved into Middle English as 'flingen', carrying the meaning of hurl or cast something. This Norse origin is an iconic reminder of Scandinavian languages' significant impact on English during the Viking Age.
