Get ready for more action under the sea! The ace marine shipbuilder, Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), has scored another mega deal, this time with Singapore. Boom time for TKMS as it bags a contract to construct two more Type 218SG submarines, worth over a billion Euros.

The new subs will reportedly be manufactured in Wismar, a strategic move for TKMS, aimed at fully developing it as a submarine hub. TKMS's CEO, Oliver Burkhard, assures there's no manpower crunch, with an abundance of job applications pouring in, setting the stage for the creation of around 1,500 jobs in Wismar.

This addition takes TKMS's order book to a staggering 16 billion euros. And guess what? The German Naval Navy isn't the only one eyeing this skillful shipbuilder. Norway has also shown interest in increasing its submarine fleet, adding to TKMS's potential growth opportunities.

But that's not all, Canada might just be the next playground for TKMS. The Canadian market is ripe for exploration, and TKMS is leaving no stone unturned. Burkhard hints at a potential Canadian office opening by the end of May, setting the ball rolling for a possible pact. The Canadian involvement in the German-Norwegian submarine project 212CD is also a distinct possibility.

This latest contract extension is a testament to TKMS's prowess in the maritime industry. With a workforce of around 8,000 employees, TKMS operates from three shipyards in Kiel, Wismar, and Itajaí, Brazil, along with numerous other international sites.

The four earlier submarines built for Singapore, christened by Olaf Scholz and Lee Hsien Loong in December 2022, are part of the company's success story. The four Type 218SG submarines, known as the Invincible-class in Singapore, are equipped with air-independent propulsion systems and designed to accommodate a crew of 28 personnel, making them one of the largest submarine classes built in Germany since World War II.

But what about the competition, you ask? Well, TKMS seems to be a step ahead, constantly striving to maintain its leading position in the global naval industry and forge strong international partnerships. As for the latest happenings with other potential clients like Canada, it's worth keeping a close eye on TKMS's official announcements or related defense ministry updates to stay informed.
