Thousands Spend Night at Munich Airport - Thousands Stranded at Munich Airport After Drone Shutdown
Thousands of passengers are spending the night in Munich Airport's terminals after drone sightings led to a temporary shutdown of air traffic. The incident, which began around 9:30 PM, has affected thousands of travelers and caused significant disruption.
The Federal Police are investigating reports of possible drone sightings over Munich Airport. This is not the first time drones have caused disruptions at the airport; similar incidents occurred on Thursday and Friday evenings. The potential drone threat led air traffic control to restrict and then completely stop operations, affecting 46 planned take-offs and 23 incoming flights that were diverted or canceled. Around 6,500 passengers have been impacted by the incident.
Airport management, air traffic control, and police authorities coordinated smoothly to ensure the safety of passengers. Eyewitnesses reported the possible drone sightings, leading to the temporary shutdown. Passengers are being provided with essentials such as cots, blankets, drinks, and snacks to help them through the night.
Munich Airport is expected to resume operations earliest on Saturday morning, following the drone incident. The Federal Police continue to investigate the reports of drone sightings. The incident has highlighted the ongoing issue of drone disruptions at airports, with this being the third such incident at Munich Airport in recent days. Passengers are advised to check the latest flight information and prepare for potential delays or cancellations.
