Tesla's New Model Y: Affordable Electric SUV Stripped Down for Price-Sensitive Buyers
Tesla is set to introduce a more affordable version of its Model Y SUV, stripping down features to attract price-sensitive customers. The new variant, a tesla model y, will debut in the USA at $39,990, a significant drop from the current base price.
The stripped-down tesla model y will sport a simple fabric headliner, steel wheels, and potentially fabric seats, similar to some tesla model 3s in Mexico. It will forgo features like electric folding side mirrors, panoramic sunroof, door handle lighting, and a rear seat display to achieve this lower price point.
Tesla aims to reach a wider audience with this strategy, as many individual customers and fleets struggle to afford or justify the higher price of premium electric vehicles. The company has canceled plans for a tesla model 2 and is now focusing on offering a more basic tesla model y. The new variant is expected to be around $10,000 cheaper than the current tesla model y, pricing it around $35,000 in the USA. In Germany, the 'stripped' version could range from 34,990 to 37,990 euros, compared to the base tesla model y's starting price of 44,990 euros.
Tesla plans significant cost reductions in the suspension, seats, and sound system to make this price drop possible. However, this strategy is not without risks, as seen with the Cybertruck's similar approach. The Mexican market currently offers a tesla model y in Stealth Grey with fabric seats for around 39,650 euros, hinting at the potential pricing for the stripped-down variant.
The stripped-down tesla model y is Tesla's attempt to tap into lower price segments, making electric vehicles more accessible to a broader range of customers. The new variant is expected to start production soon, with pricing and availability details to be confirmed.
