Tesla Canada Introduces New Model 3 & Y Variants Amidst Trade Policy Changes
Tesla has introduced new variants of the Model 3 and Model Y in Canada, following recent changes in trade policies regarding electric vehicles (EVs) made in China. While specific tariffs on Chinese EVs in Canada and the USA are not yet confirmed, similar moves have been seen in the UK and the US, potentially impacting Tesla's exports.
Tesla has discontinued the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variants of the Model 3 and Model Y, marking the end of LFP batteries in these models. The new Long Range RWD variants, now available in Canada, feature an estimated range of 584km for the Model 3 and 525km for the Model Y, with top speeds of 217km/h and 225km/h respectively. The Model 3 starts at $54,990 CAD, a $4,000 price increase, while the Model Y starts at $59,990 CAD. Both models qualify for federal rebates: $5,000 for the Model Y and the same federal rebate as the previous model for the Model 3.
Tesla's move comes as a response to potential new tariffs on EVs made in China, affecting exports to Canada and the US. Although there's no specific information about tariffs on Chinese EVs in these countries, broader trade tensions between the US and China have included tariffs on Chinese products.
