Telecommunications giant Telefonica Tech joins forces with Privado ID to create digital identity solutions across the European Union.
The strategic digital business unit of Spanish telecommunications giant Telefónica Group, Telefónica Tech, has joined forces with Privado ID as a system integrator. This collaboration is aimed at accelerating the adoption of privacy-compliant digital identities across the European Union, in line with the European Digital Identity Regulation (eIDAS2).
The European Union is preparing to implement eIDAS2, which mandates that each EU Member State must provide Digital Identity Wallets to its citizens. The regulation outlines technical specifications and certification for these wallets, ensuring a secure and standardized framework for electronic identification.
eIDAS2 emphasizes user control and privacy in digital identity systems. It aims to create a secure and standardized framework for electronic identification, making it imperative for businesses and individuals to adopt compliant identity solutions.
Privado ID, formerly known as Polygon ID, will leverage Telefónica Tech's experience in decentralized technology, systems integration, and its managed blockchain service TrustOS. This partnership will facilitate secure, privacy-respecting identity verification for EU citizens and businesses.
One of the first use cases being developed is age verification, which can be used to provide a reliable and secure privacy-compliant mechanism for granting access to adult content and gambling platforms.
David Schwartz, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder at Privado ID, stated that empowering large companies to integrate innovative technologies, such as Privado ID's advanced zero-knowledge proof-based digital identity platform, is crucial for widespread adoption of self-sovereign identity.
José Luis Nuñez, Global Head of Blockchain and Web3 at Telefónica Tech, emphasized Telefónica Tech's experience and expertise in blockchain-based solutions and systems integration as a key factor in driving the future of digital identity.
The collaboration between Privado ID and Telefónica Tech is expected to bring corporate clients into the Privado ID ecosystem, thanks to Telefónica Tech's size and depth of experience.
Privado ID sees the collaboration as a critical step in its mission to provide state-of-the-art digital identity solutions. The partnership will enable them to develop innovative verifiable credential use cases, contributing to the widespread adoption of privacy-compliant digital identities across the European Union.
