Taurus GX2 Evaluation: An Analysis of the Taurus GX2 Model
The Taurus GX2, a recoil-operated, semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9 mm Luger, is making waves in the firearms market. With its user-friendly features, reliability, and affordable price point, the GX2 is described as being feature-packed.
During testing, the GX2 was used with both an IWB PHLster Skeleton and an OWB UM Tactical Qualifier holster, demonstrating its versatility for various carry options. The GX2's overall size offers a balance between carryability and shootability, making it an ideal choice for everyday carry.
The GX2's magazine capacity is 13 rounds, placing it between the 11-round and 15-round magazines of other models. Taurus is offering an extended 15-round GX2 magazine as an accessory for those seeking more ammunition capacity.
The GX2's magazine is double-column/single-feed and has a small circumference at the top of the grip, ensuring a comfortable grip for most hand sizes. The magazine release is reversible, but all other controls are left-side-only.
The GX2's slide and barrel assembly mimic the GX4, with upper and front bevels for concealed carry and deep slide serrations for improved manipulation. The black-slide version of the GX2 has an MSRP of $310, which is approximately $175 less than the GX4 Carry.
The GX2's dustcover has a molded-in M1913 Picatinny rail for mounting lights and lasers, adding to its practicality. The GX2 can be disassembled using an external takedown lever, a user-friendly feature that differs from the GX4's screwdriver-assisted takedown.
The GX2's grip module is polymer, has eight available colours, and a unique stippling pattern for a secure grip. The GX2 uses a striker-fired action and has a modular fire-control chassis, offering customisation options for the shooter.
The GX2's trigger has a take-up, followed by a solid wall and a clean break at 6 lbs., 4 ozs., with a short and positive reset. Despite being able to be unloaded with the manual safety engaged, the slide cannot be retracted far enough to chamber a new round with the safety on.
The GX2 was tested at the Gunsite Academy, demonstrating its ability to handle rigorous conditions. Following in the footsteps of the G2c, the GX2 is another example of Taurus updating its firearm lineup to make 'protection accessible to every American.' With its affordable price point, the GX2 is within reach for many shooters seeking a reliable, compact pistol.
