Swiss Army Boosts Drone Capabilities with New Attack System
The Swiss Army is bolstering its drone capabilities, teaming up with start-up Consulteer to create an attack drone system. This collaboration comes amidst a rise in unauthorized drone flights near military areas, with 2025 incidents recorded recently.
The new system will complement the army's existing drone fleet, which includes the Israeli Hermes 900, Parrot's Anafi series, Black Hornet 3 PRS, Indago 3, and Orbiter 2B. The Hermes 900, for instance, can detect objects as small as 30 centimeters from an altitude of eight kilometers during daylight.
The Indago 3, a compact and foldable drone from Lockheed Martin, is easily transportable in a backpack. Meanwhile, the Orbiter 2B, with a wingspan of three meters and a weight of ten kilograms, is ideal for long-term reconnaissance operations. The Anafi series by Parrot offers three types of drones with flight times up to 30 minutes and ranges of up to four kilometers. The Black Hornet 3 PRS, one of the world's smallest and lightest military drones, excels in tactical reconnaissance and covert operations.
The Swiss Army is committed to enhancing its drone capabilities, with a focus on countering micro and mini-drones. The collaboration with Consulteer and the integration of advanced military drones like the Hermes 900 aim to strengthen the army's surveillance and security measures, with a planned drone defense system to be operational by 2025.
