Submissions for the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2026 are Now Open Globally, Commencing August 1st

The Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (SSFF & ASIA) has announced the opening of submissions for its 2026 edition, starting on August 1, 2025. This Academy Awards® accredited festival invites filmmakers to submit their work through the rights management platform, Life Log Box (LLB), and various other online platforms like FilmFreeway.

The festival accepts films completed after June 1, 2024, in three main competition categories: Japan, Asia International, and International. The eligibility for each category depends on factors such as the director’s nationality, shooting location, film language, cast nationality, and funding source.

All live-action films, except non-fiction, animation, and music videos, are eligible for the competitions. Films not in English or Japanese must have English or Japanese subtitles or provide a script/dialogue list. For the International and Asia International competitions, a Japan Premiere is required, meaning the film must not have been screened publicly in Japan or streamed online with Japanese subtitles before the festival.

In addition to the main competitions, the festival also offers a specialized Kodansha Cinema Creators' Lab competition for pitching unpublished projects across all formats and genres. Applications for this lab open on August 1, 2024, and close on November 30, 2024.

Regarding the Life Log Box platform, while specific integration details with SSFF & ASIA are not documented, Life Log Box is a digital wallet issuance platform that enables users to participate in Web 3.0 services. Using Life Log Box can provide benefits such as streamlined credential management for participants, enhanced security in film submission authentication, and easier access to innovative digital experiences connected with the festival or its partner events within the emerging Web 3.0 ecosystem.

Every submitting creator will automatically receive a digital wallet for participation in Web3 services. This digital wallet enables creators to participate in NFT-based voting and content trading on the platform. The festival aims to develop into a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) community, and the digital wallet could play a significant role in this future development.

The press release, sourced from the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia, is a call for entries for the SSFF & ASIA 2026 edition, which is open worldwide. Submissions can be made through the Life Log Box platform or other online platforms.
