New 2026 Subaru Uncharted: Compact Electric SUV with Long-Range and Sporty Performance

The automotive world is abuzz with excitement as Subaru unveils its latest offering, the 2026 Subaru Uncharted. This compact, 4-door, crossover-styled battery-electric vehicle (BEV) is set to join Subaru's growing electric vehicle lineup, following the successful launch of the Subaru Solterra in 2022.

The Uncharted comes in three trim levels: Premium (FWD), Sport, and GT (both AWD). Key specifications include power outputs ranging from 221 horsepower for the Premium FWD to a punchy 338 horsepower for the dual-motor Sport and GT trims. The dual-motor models can accelerate from 0-60 mph in under 5 seconds, making the Uncharted a sporty addition to Subaru's lineup.

The battery range varies depending on the trim and equipment. The Premium FWD offers an estimated range of over 300 miles (483 km), while the Sport and GT AWD trims offer up to about 290 miles (467 km). Subaru estimates that it will take around 30 minutes to charge the Uncharted's battery pack at DC fast chargers, taking it from 10% charge to 80%.

Charging infrastructure is not a concern for the Uncharted, as it is equipped with a NACS port compatible with over 15,000 Tesla Supercharger stations in North America. In addition, an 11-kW onboard AC charger supports Level 1 and 2 charging at home.

The Uncharted features Subaru's new "lighting signature" across all three BEVs for 2026. The exterior design is sporty and aerodynamic, with short overhangs front and rear, wheels pushed to the corners, and a longer wheelbase, creating more interior room and a more stable ride. The rear door handles are high on the vehicle and backed up almost to the C-pillars, creating a large, smooth expanse of sheetmetal on the sides, almost like a coupe.

Subaru of America plans to offer the Uncharted as the third BEV within their brand, developed jointly with Toyota Motor Corp. The Uncharted was developed jointly with the Toyota C-HR, which also goes on sale in 2026. The Toyota bZ4X, jointly developed with the Solterra, will receive a significant mid-product-cycle update in 2026 and become the Toyota bZ.

The Uncharted is positioned as the "newest, smallest" BEV in Subaru's lineup, with the Solterra being 7 inches longer. The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker, another BEV developed jointly with the Toyota bZ Woodland crossover, will join the Uncharted in Subaru's U.S. lineup.

The Uncharted also comes with standard features such as Subaru’s X-Mode Dual Mode with Grip Control on AWD models for optimizing traction on slippery or uneven terrain. The Premium FWD trim is limited production, while the GT trim adds premium features such as a panoramic moonroof, 20-inch wheels, ventilated front seats, and a Harman Kardon sound system. The interior includes a standard 14-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In 2024, Subaru sold 12,447 units of a previous BEV model, the Solterras, representing a 40.3% increase from 2023's sales. With the Uncharted's sporty performance, long range, and competitive charging capabilities, Subaru is poised to continue its growth in the electric vehicle market.
