Social Media Survey in Japan Identifies X as the Most Annoying Platform

In a survey titled "Survey on Social Media Platforms," conducted by RJC Research in Japan via Line Research, Twitter (X) emerged as the most irritating social media platform for users in the country[1]. The survey received 1,050 valid responses from men and women aged 20 to 69.

The primary reason for users' frustration towards X was the spread of unreliable information, such as false rumors, fake news, and gossip, which was cited by 50% of respondents as the most irritating type of post[1]. Additionally, aggressive comments were a significant issue, mentioned by 52.8% of respondents as a common problem in comments or reactions on the platform[1].

Interestingly, complaints about X were especially prominent among men and women in their twenties and thirties, distinguishing it from platforms like Instagram, which also ranked as irritating but to a lesser extent and had a different demographic profile[1].

While Instagram was the second most chosen platform, it had 19.1 percentage points less than X. A separate question regarding types of annoying comments or reactions showed that the most commonly cited problem was aggressive comments, mentioned by 52.8% of the respondents[1].
