Smith Optical Introduces Cutting-edge Mixed Reality Spectacles

In the world of DeepTech, Smith Optical, a startup based at the University of Southampton, is seeking investors with a proven track record in bringing paradigm-shifting technology to market. The company, known for its high-performance protective eyewear, is now venturing into the realm of Mixed Reality (MR) displays.

Currently, the market for MR displays is enormous, with applications ranging from security and automation to wearable computing and the metaverse. However, existing MR glasses have been plagued with issues such as nausea, poor brightness, limited color palette, unwanted eye-glow, and delivering eye-convincing 3D.

Smith Optical aims to change this narrative by offering viewing under all light conditions and immersive 3D with their new MR glasses. The startup has already raised over £650k of non-dilutive funding and has 17 patents filed for its technology.

While Smith Optical's key features centre around their high-performance glacier sunglasses, their new approach is focused on creating the display technology essential for realizing the metaverse. The metaverse, as envisioned by Smith Optical, would allow users to engage in the online world through stylish mixed reality display glasses.

In contrast, market-leading MR glasses like the Halo AI glasses and Xreal Luma Pro glasses offer advanced display technology, onboard AI processing, long battery life, bone-conductive audio, and user customization for digital immersive experiences.

Smith Optical's new MR glasses are still under development in the lab, but the company is confident that they can out-perform all existing solutions. Peter Smith, co-founder of Smith Optical, aims to prove this by entering a £2m seed funding round. The startup's goal is to convince technology majors to incorporate their technology to guarantee their position at the forefront of wearable tech.

Despite the advancements in MR technology, current solutions often resemble ski-goggles rather than designer specs. Smith Optical's approach aims to fill this gap, offering a new type of MR glasses that can seamlessly blend with everyday fashion.

As Smith Optical embarks on this exciting new journey, they are poised to revolutionize how we lead our lives in the metaverse, offering a more immersive, stylish, and user-friendly experience.

Smith Optical, seeking further funding to bring their innovative mixed reality (MR) glasses to market, aims to offer a more stylish and user-friendly solution compared to existing MR devices like the Halo AI glasses and Xreal Luma Pro glasses, while also delivering top-notch display technology and immersive 3D experiences.
