Seventh Edition Project Invitation Announced: Attention All Participants!

Artistic Exploration of Real and Virtual Time at 2024 Recto VRso Festival

The annual Recto VRso Festival, set to take place at Le Quarante in Laval from April 11 to 14, 2024, will be free for visitors. This year's event marks the festival's seventh edition, and the organizers have launched a call for projects to participate in the Art & VR Gallery. The theme for the exhibition is "Real Time / Virtual Time," inviting artists from around the world to explore the interplay between immediate, lived experience and the constructed, digital, or simulated experience.

Founded in 2018 by Judith GUEZ, the Recto VRso Festival showcases artworks that utilize various digital mediums, such as virtual and mixed reality. Each year, an annual theme guides the exhibitions in a multidimensional search, inviting artists of diverse backgrounds and disciplines to showcase their work.

Judith GUEZ, the festival's Founder and Artistic Director, is an artist, researcher, and curator who studies the emergence of new artistic forms between the real and the virtual. Julien LOMET, the festival's Cultural Coordinator, is a doctoral student and researcher who studies collaborative forms in virtual reality.

For the Art & VR Gallery exhibition, artists are invited to submit proposals that resonate with the theme and explore emerging expressions using virtual, augmented, or mixed reality, immersive devices, interactive interfaces, robotics, multi-dimensional spatialization, and presence effects. Hybrid and transdisciplinary approaches are particularly welcome.

According to Judith GUEZ, the theme of "Real Time / Virtual Time" centers on exploring the relationship and tension between immediate, lived experience and the constructed, digital, or simulated experience. The theme highlights how immersive technologies challenge and expand our perception of time by blending physical presence with virtual environments, creating interactive and dynamic art experiences that unfold in both temporal dimensions simultaneously.

The call for projects is open until December 1, 2023, and interested artists can apply by clicking on this link.

In addition to the Art & VR Gallery, the festival will consist of two other parts: The R&C Lab, which promotes artistic diversity by inviting established artists, students, researchers, and collectives to showcase their work; and the Xtended section, which offers visitors immersive and entertaining experiences exploring digital technology.

The 2024 Recto VRso Festival aims to offer a comprehensive look at current artistic practices, as well as opportunities for exchange and encounter. Visit the festival's website for more information about the call for projects, the festival schedule, and other important details.
