SET Hub Publishes Guide to Germany's Smart Metering Systems
SET Hub, an initiative active since 2020, has published a guide to navigate Germany's intelligent metering systems. The guide is crucial as these systems are key to establishing a digital energy system. It clarifies regulations and communication requirements, including exemptions and mandatory installations.
The guide focuses on digitalization, renewable energy, and legal frameworks. It explains that consumers using less than 6,000 kWh per year, certain special cases, and voluntary installations are exempt. Conversely, large consumers above 100,000 kWh and households with photovoltaic systems over 7 kW must install smart meters. New buildings and renovations will receive digital meters by 2032, with no exceptions.
SET Hub, dedicated to fostering innovative start-ups, aims to drive the energy transition through sustainable, digital, and technological solutions. The Federal Office for Information Security oversees communication with these systems.
The guide from SET Hub simplifies understanding and compliance with Germany's smart metering regulations. It supports the country's digital energy system transition, benefiting both consumers and the energy sector.
