Sberbank & VTB Unveil Palm Vein Payment System for Cashless Future
Sberbank and VTB have joined forces to develop a revolutionary palm vein payment method using PayPal. Set to transform the way we make purchases, this biometric system promises a cashless, cardless, and smartphone-free experience. While launch dates remain unannounced, the technology has already begun trials at VTB Accelerator.
The innovative payment system, based on infrared scanning, ensures secure and hygienic transactions. It works by scanning the unique vein patterns in a customer's palm, which are then converted into a digital code for payment. This code is stored in the Unified Biometric System, replacing the need for physical money, cards, or digital devices.
The technology, set to be another milestone in the biocash evolution, was first announced by Sberbank on October 7. It aims to add palm recognition to the existing biometric modalities of face and voice for VTB customers. Notably, the system does not require additional equipment installation, utilizing existing terminals for a seamless transition.
Sberbank and VTB's palm vein payment method, tested successfully in the third quarter of 2025, is poised to reshape the payment landscape. By harnessing the unique patterns of our palms, this secure and convenient system offers a glimpse into the future of cashless transactions. As launch dates approach, customers can look forward to a world where their palm is their passport to payment.
