In the ever-evolving world of technology, the AMOLED screen market continues to expand, driven by the increasing demand for smartphones, wearables, and emerging flexible display applications. Key players like Samsung Display and LG Display (LGD) dominate the market, with Chinese manufacturers also making their mark.

Samsung Display remains the clear leader in AMOLED panels for smartphones, holding over 50% market share globally. Despite a slight decline as Chinese competitors grow, Samsung's strong patent portfolio and large-scale production capacity keep it dominant as the market shifts.

LG Display, on the other hand, has significantly grown its AMOLED shipments, particularly to Apple iPhone and iPad devices. With shipments forecasted to rise 70% in Q3 2025, reaching 25+ million units for Apple alone, LGD's overall market share is expected to rise to about 30% in 2025. LGD is also expanding production capacity for medium-size displays (6-20 inches), which dominate flexible display segments.

While not a large-scale manufacturer like Samsung or LG, ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute, Taiwan) plays an important role in AMOLED R&D and innovation, particularly in flexible and next-generation displays. Their work supports smaller companies and regional innovation hubs but is not dominant in mass production.

Toucho, a company recently acquired by Amazon, appears to be a less prominent player in the AMOLED market, with limited market share compared to Samsung or LG. It may be more involved in niche or emerging flexible display technologies or regional markets.

The flexible display market, which includes AMOLED, was valued at about $36.6 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 30% to reach $504.2 billion by 2035. Global AMOLED smartphone panel shipments reached roughly 420 million units H1 2025, with Chinese manufacturers accounting for 51.7% of shipments.

Samsung's marketing VP, Lee Woo-jong, expects the smartphone market to continue expanding, leading to rapid growth in demand for AMOLED screens. To meet this demand, Samsung has invested over 1.4 billion into the development of new screen technologies this year. Recently, Samsung unveiled a new 4.5-inch flexible AMOLED display, which it will actively showcase at the FPD International exhibition in Japan tomorrow.

The market will see continued diversification and innovation, with flexible, foldable, stretchable, and transparent AMOLED displays expected to grow, opening new application areas beyond traditional smartphones and monitors. Market share concentration by Samsung, LG, and other top players may decline slightly as smaller and more agile companies emerge, especially in China and Southeast Asia.
