Russian supporters breach and bring down Stuttgart's online platform

The Stuttgart city administration website has been offline since last week due to a cyberattack, joining a list of German cities targeted by the same pro-Russian hacker group.

The Stuttgart city had to take the site offline following a DDoS attack, causing technical issues that made the site inaccessible. The pro-Russian group "NoName057(16)" has claimed responsibility for the attack.

NoName057(16) is known for pro-Russian DDoS campaigns, targeting organizations internationally. However, a comprehensive case study specifically documenting their attacks on German cities, including Stuttgart, has not been found publicly or in the searched sources.

The cities of Dresden, Berlin, and Ellwangen have also been targeted by similar attacks, causing their portals to be inaccessible for several days. The exact method by which the hackers gained access to these city portals remains unclear.

Despite the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, no official statement has been made regarding the connection between these cyberattacks and the conflict. The cities involved have not reported any data leaks as a result of the attacks.

The city portal of Ellwangen was also affected by a cyberattack, but no further details about the impact were provided.

Previously, the SWR had reported on this incident, highlighting the ongoing DDoS campaigns by NoName057(16) targeting cities in countries that support Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.

It's important to note that monitoring cybersecurity reports or specialized threat intelligence may reveal updates if such incidents occur. As of now, the Stuttgart city administration website remains offline, and efforts are being made to restore it.
