Roketsan reveals EREN dual-purpose aerial bomb at the IDEF 2025 exhibition
In the dynamic landscape of modern warfare, where drone attacks have become increasingly prevalent, Turkey's defence company Roketsan has developed a game-changing solution - the EREN multirole loitering munition. This high-speed, jet-powered kamikaze UAV is designed for multi-role use against both slow-moving aerial targets and a variety of ground targets.
Weighing approximately 35 kg, EREN boasts an operational range of over 100 kilometers and an endurance exceeding 15 minutes. This makes it capable of rapid strikes with superior guidance precision via an optical seeker for terminal targeting.
The capabilities of EREN are diverse. It can engage low-speed airborne threats and diverse ground targets, including armored vehicles and personnel. Its long endurance and range allow flexible deployment and strike timing, while its deployment versatility enables it to be launched from multiple platforms such as armed UAVs, helicopters, land vehicles, naval vessels, and ground-based launchers.
The potential applications of EREN are far-reaching. It serves as an anti-drone and low-speed aerial threat defense, a critical tool in modern asymmetrical warfare and contested airspaces. It also provides precision long-range strikes on armored and unarmored ground assets. Furthermore, it offers mobile units a lightweight, versatile strike option that complements heavier missile systems like Roketsan’s UMTAS anti-tank missile.
In addition, EREN's containerized version can conduct counter-saturation attacks through multiple launchers. It can strike UAVs from a UAV and track and strike moving ground targets from a UAV. Its guidance system and long endurance enable it to tackle targets with precision in various mission contexts.
Roketsan General Manager Murat Ikinci recently stated that EREN's testing phase is nearly complete. The company unveiled this versatile munition at IDEF 2025. Ikinci also claimed that Turkey's UAVs and munitions are "by far the best in the world."
EREN is a munition capable of multiple mission definitions. Its turbojet engine enables it to move much faster than UAVs, making it a unique asset in the modern battlefield. No other country possesses the variety of munitions that Turkey has developed, further solidifying its position as a key player in the global defence industry.
Eren, Turkey's advanced loitering munition unveiled by Roketsan, is set to be a game-changer in Turkish technology with its versatility and high speed. With its improved guidance precision, long range, and multiple deployment options, Eren is poised to assert Turkey's dominance in the global defense industry, particularly in the realm of counter-drone defense and precision long-range strikes.
