Revised update for Rematch targets resolving significant network coding issues such as missed tackles and misfired goals. The developers aim to launch crossplay functionality by August's end.
Rematch, the popular multiplayer soccer game, has been making strides in improving its gameplay experience. The developers have announced that the next major patch, Patch 3, is expected to be released at the end of August 2025. This update will mark a significant milestone as it will enable cross-platform multiplayer, allowing players on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox to compete together for the first time.
Patch 2, released on August 20, 2025, focused on addressing major bug fixes, particularly netcode issues and stability improvements. However, crossplay was not included in this update.
Patch 3, the much-anticipated Rematch Crossplay, will bring about several improvements. Apart from crossplay, it will also enhance matchmaking and gameplay balance. The developers have confirmed that this update will address known issues, including improvements for the Ippy Slide move.
In the lead-up to Patch 3, several improvements have been made. For instance, the wind animation for foliage during goal bursts has been fixed, and the player character's colour palette can no longer be overridden with the Equipment colour while previewing Special skins. Additionally, various user interface sound-related issues have been addressed, and the Goal Celebration cutscene lighting during the match has been improved.
The beta version of Rematch will be available automatically in Steam libraries. However, it is worth noting that the beta version will be missing features such as 4v4 Quick Match, Ranked, Store, and Battle Pass. The developers are working to rectify these missing features in the live version, which is scheduled to be rolled out on August 18, assuming all goes well.
In terms of performance, Patch 3 aims to improve Global GPU/Rendering performances, as well as optimize various Stadiums & VR. The gameflow transition sequence when going back to the Main Menu has also been fixed.
However, some issues remain unresolved. Rare random crashes can be encountered on PS5, and in specific situations, the ranking promotion displays incorrect information to the player. The developers are working diligently to address these issues.
One notable issue that has been addressed is the problem with AR Reactions not playing properly from the Celebration to Replay transition, and from the Replay to the kickoff Countdown transition. The visual artefact where character outlines would be visible through the character's hair, and displaced meshes on the main character's hairstyle in the Prologue, have also been fixed.
The second major patch for Rematch is now available in Steam beta, and the developers have added a colour control setting for eyelashes. Moreover, the missing thumbnails for some tattoos have been fixed, and the countdown sound effect has been made to start while playing in the Water Stadiums, Wind Stadiums, and Mountains VR.
In conclusion, Patch 2, released August 20, 2025, addressed major bug fixes but no crossplay yet. Patch 3 (Rematch Crossplay), expected to be released at the end of August 2025, will introduce the long-awaited crossplay feature across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, as well as several other improvements.
