Repurposing Graphics Card as Computer Case for DIY Desktop Builds
In the bygone era of the '90s and early '00s, computers were hefty, while graphics cards were relatively smaller peripherals that blended in with other card types. Nowadays, the tables have turned - graphics cards are bulky, and computers continue to shrink in size. This strange twist of fate inspired CherryTree Computers to do what everyone had been joking about and shove a PC into a GPU. And who better to poke around this creative contraption than [Gamers Nexus]?
CherryTree humorously dubbed this one-off creation the GeeFarce 5027 POS Micro Computer, which brings together an Asus NUC 13 (powered by a 13th Gen Intel Core i7) and an old, deceased Asus Aorus RTX 2070 GPU. Check out the [Gamers Nexus] video for a sneak peek - it's a bit chaotic with heatshrink and wires everywhere, not to mention the chopped-off original heatsink. But from a distance, it still resembles a GPU, can slot into a PC as if it's the real deal, and fits snugly inside a PC case.
With 64 GB of DDR4 RAM and a 2 TB NVMe M.2 drive onboard, this DIY Frankenstein's monster relies on an external power supply instead of the PCIe slot's power. What's next? Perhaps an x86 system synced synchronously with a functioning GPU, making the 'install the PC inside the GPU' meme truly come to life.
As intriguing as it is, the GeeFarce 5027 POS is more of a novelty project, and there's no commercial rollout planned. But it proves the potential for integrating x86 systems into GPU enclosures, giving room for improvement in cooling, incorporating more powerful components, and maybe even including functional GPUs for better performance. As of now, there's no word on further developments, hinting that this creative pursuit remains an experimental niche in the tech world.
Gamers Nexus found the GeeFarce 5027 POS Micro Computer, a creative contraption by CherryTree Computers, interesting as it brings together technology from different eras. The GeeFarce 5027 POS, a blend of an Asus NUC 13 and an old Asus Aorus RTX 2070 GPU, shows potential for integrating data-and-cloud-computing systems into GPU enclosures, opening up possibilities for improved cooling, stronger components, and even functional GPUs for enhanced performance.
