Recyclable, Easy-to-Peel Lidding Films through Collaboration between Bostik and Brückner: A Single-Material Solution Maximizing Environmental Impact
A groundbreaking webinar, jointly hosted by Bostik and Bruckner, has introduced a full-service solution for the production of recyclable PET peelable lidding films. The solution is specifically designed for thermoform tray recovery, offering a significant step towards sustainability in the packaging industry.
At the helm of Bostik's global R&D and technical support for extrudable hot-melt and polyester-based solutions is Christophe Robert. With a Ph.D. in Materials Science from École des Mines d'Alès and a Master in Polymers from Université de Bordeaux, Robert brings a wealth of knowledge to the table. His expertise in adhesive technologies for flexible packaging, tapes, and labels spans over 20 years.
Claude Granel, the Global Marketing Manager at Bostik, focuses on sustainable innovation in flexible packaging. Granel holds a Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry and an MBA from HEC Paris. Prior to Bostik, Granel held leadership roles in marketing, R&D, and project management at Arkema, Total, and C2G Consulting, bringing a diverse range of experiences to the table.
Markus Koppers, the Head of Technology Center at Brückner Maschinenbau, has over 25 years of experience in polymer film development and processing. He joined Brückner's Technology Center in 2015, focusing on advanced film extrusion technologies for packaging applications. Koppers holds a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from TU Clausthal.
The learning objectives of the webinar extend beyond the introduction of the solution. Participants will learn how to retrofit a standard BOPET line, understand the technical performances of the monomaterial polyester peelable lidding film, and get insights into how Bostik and Bruckner help to enable recyclability of polyester packaging.
The webinar also discusses how to optimize production efficiency, a crucial aspect for any industrial solution.
The collaborative efforts don't end with Bostik and Bruckner. Companies involved in developing a complete service offering for recyclable PET release films designed for thermoformed container recycling include Krones Recycling, which provides turnkey PET recycling solutions from shredding, washing, sorting, and decontamination to energy-efficient processing into films, preforms, or pellets. Additionally, NGR and Leistritz collaborate to combine recycling and compounding technologies, producing high-quality regranulates suitable for films with tailored mechanical properties and food-grade standards. Bachmann Group is also noted for producing PET recycling films in Switzerland.
The session highlights how monomaterial polyester technology can meet sustainability goals, offering a promising path for the packaging industry towards a more eco-friendly future.
