Ramping up production at Tesla's German factory, according to a recent report.
Tesla, the leading electric vehicle manufacturer, is set to increase production at its German manufacturing hub for the remainder of the year, following a mixed performance in sales across several markets.
André Thierig, who manages the Gruenheide plant, shared this news with Germany's DPA news agency, as reported by Reuters. Thierig stated that they currently have good sales figures and have revised production plans for the third and fourth quarters upward.
However, the sales tally for the period from January to July 2022 showed a 57.8% decline. Tesla sold 384,122 cars in Q2 2022, a decrease of around 60,000 cars or 13.5% compared to the same period last year. The company reported a 12% year-on-year decrease in total revenue for Q2 2022, with figures falling to $22.49bn from $25.5bn in the same period last year.
Despite the downturn, Tesla has seen a 21.3% surge in registrations in Norway. The company's head, Thierig, also stated that they supply well over 30 markets and see a positive trend there.
The encouraging trends are across all markets served by the Gruenheide plant, not just within Germany. However, Tesla faces intense competition from Chinese automakers in Germany. Analysts have speculated that consumer demand for Tesla may be influenced by the political engagements of CEO Elon Musk.
The increase in production is due to higher sales of vehicles made at the plant. This news comes after Tesla's sales figures, as reported by the KBA road transport agency, do not include the data for August 2022. The company has experienced a continued downturn in sales across several European markets in August 2022, marking the eighth consecutive month of year-on-year declines.
German Economics Minister Robert Habeck announced to employees of the Tesla plant in Germany that Tesla will increase production stages at the German production center in the remainder of the year. This move could help Tesla regain its footing in the competitive European market.
Tesla's participation in the Just Auto Excellence Awards, which celebrate innovation, leadership, and impact in the automotive industry, further underscores the company's commitment to driving advancements in the sector. The awards provide a platform for companies to showcase their achievements, elevate their industry profile, and position themselves among top leaders in the automotive industry.
Despite the challenges, Tesla remains a key player in the electric vehicle market, and the increase in production at its German plant could signal a turnaround in the company's European sales performance.
