Radio station fully adopts virtualization technology through WorldCast systems.
100% Radio, a French network that broadcasts across multiple FM and DAB+ frequencies, has streamlined its operations and future-proofed its infrastructure by adopting a software-defined architecture powered by APT IP codecs and APTmpX technology from WorldCast Systems.
The network, which operates 16 separate program feeds, previously faced challenges in scaling efficiently due to a hardware-heavy infrastructure that required dedicated audio processors at multiple locations. To address this issue, 100% Radio has centralized and virtualized its audio processing.
All audio processing for the 16 program feeds is handled in the 100% Radio studio using Omnia.9 software processors. The MPX signals are then routed to virtual APT IP codecs, which compress and transport the audio using APTmpX, a software-defined, highly efficient MPX-over-IP solution. This approach simplifies infrastructure, ensures consistent sound integrity across multiple locations, and reduces hardware dependency, thus enabling efficient scaling.
The system also supports legacy transmitters by decoding the MPX stream with APT Silver Decoders for analog feeding. Some sites have transitioned to WorldCast Systems' Ecreso FM AiO Series transmitters, which include APT IP decoders as built-in software, eliminating the need for separate decoders.
The three-format approach offered by APTmpX allows for sound integrity while reducing bandwidth usage at each site. Additionally, APT SureStream technology adds built-in redundancy to mitigate packet loss and enhance reliability, even over a single IP path. The resilience within the APTmpX algorithm has been cited by 100% Radio as a key factor in its network's performance.
The entire setup is monitored through WorldCast’s vendor-agnostic Kybio platform, which aids operational oversight and automation. With this solution, 100% Radio maintains high-quality, stable broadcasts, reduces bandwidth usage via APTmpX compression, and scales its network efficiently while future-proofing its infrastructure. The network plans to continue expanding throughout the country.
