Powerful Base Single Engine Featured in Polestar 3
**New Affordable Variant of Polestar 3 Offers Cost-Effective Electric SUV Option**
Polestar, the electric vehicle brand with roots in Sweden, has introduced a more affordable variant of its first SUV, the Polestar 3. The new model, named the Single Motor, offers a cost-effective electric vehicle option for those who do not require all-wheel drive or the lavish power output of the dual motor.
The Single Motor version comes with only one electric motor, less power, and rear-wheel drive instead of all-wheel drive. This results in a lower base price of 74,590 euros, a significant saving of 7,000 euros compared to the Dual Motor.
In terms of performance, the Single Motor offers ample space for passengers and luggage, with 484 to 1411 litres of luggage space and enough room for even fully stretched legs in the rear for most people. However, the single motor's forward thrust may be less than the Dual Motor, with a power output of 295-299 horsepower and torque of 361-490 Nm (depending on the source). This results in a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 112 mph.
On the other hand, the Dual Motor offers superior performance, with 483 horsepower without the Performance Pack, or 510 horsepower with the Performance Pack, and torque of 620-671 Nm. The Dual Motor accelerates from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds without the Performance Pack, and 4.5 seconds with the Performance Pack, and has a top speed of 130 mph.
Despite the decrease in driving power, the Single Motor provides smooth, confident intermediate sprints for overtaking, and the reduced power is only an issue for those seeking problems. Furthermore, the Single Motor has a slightly firmer ride on poor road surfaces compared to the more expensive air suspension of the dual motor, but this may be a trade-off worth considering for those prioritizing cost-effectiveness.
The Single Motor also offers a better range, with a maximum theoretical range of over 10 percent higher than the Dual Motor, at 706 kilometers compared to 632 kilometers. This makes the Single Motor more suitable for long-distance driving, although the Dual Motor offers better traction and handling, which may be valuable for some users.
The interior of the Single Motor maintains the same Scandinavian coolness as the Dual Motor version, featuring a 14.5-inch touchscreen, few physical buttons, and sustainable materials. The interior is well-built, with a smooth-functioning Android operating system and a Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 25 speakers.
The Polestar 3 Single Motor can be charged at the direct current fast charger with up to a very respectable 250 kW, filling the battery from 10 to 80 percent in just half an hour. The vehicle also comes equipped with numerous safety and driving assistants, including up to five radar modules, five external cameras, and twelve ultrasonic sensors.
Overall, the Polestar 3 Single Motor offers a cost-effective electric SUV option for those prioritizing range over power, while the Dual Motor provides superior performance and all-wheel drive capability for those who require it. The Polestar 3 will compete with rivals such as the Audi Q8 e-tron, Mercedes EQE, or BMW iX, and will also meet the Volvo EX90, which shares its technical base.
- The Commission has also received information from the Member States on the progress of the investigation regarding the public response to the introduction of the Polestar 3 Single Motor, as it offers a cost-effective electric vehicle option.
- While the lifestyle of consumers opting for the Polestar 3 Single Motor may not prioritize the latest gadgets and technology, considering its focus on cost-effectiveness, they might still appreciate the vehicle's sleek Scandinavian design in line with their preference for minimalistic aesthetics.
- As the electric-vehicle market continues to grow, the introduction of the Polestar 3 Single Motor presents a compelling choice for car enthusiasts seeking a cost-effective alternative to cars such as electric cars, especially for those looking forward to long-distance driving with an extended range, without compromising much on the comfort and performance.
