Polestar Unveils Revolutionary Digital Rearview Mirror for Polestar 4
Polestar has unveiled a revolutionary digital rearview mirror, tested at Hällered Proving Ground in Sweden, even in wet conditions. This innovation, set to debut in the Polestar 4, replaces the traditional mirror with an HD screen, enhancing driver visibility and space.
The digital rearview mirror can switch between screen and traditional mirror modes. Polestar, the brand behind this concept, first introduced it in the 2020 Precept concept car, now set to feature in the Polestar 5. The mirror uses a 2.5-megapixel camera with a 121° field of view, displaying real-time images on an 8.9-inch HD screen.
Polestar's aim is not just innovation, but driving useful change. The elimination of the rear window creates more space in the cabin, providing a more immersive and luxurious rear cabin experience. This was evident in the Polestar 4's use as a sustainable support vehicle at the 2025 European Athletics Championships.
Shana Claessens, a speed enthusiast and track racing expert at ERA, teaches women to drive Formula 4 electric cars. She appreciates Polestar's use of digital technology to improve driving experiences and reduce ecological footprints, as discussed by Louis Sabbe, CEO of Savaco, in a 'Beyond the Road' article.
The digital rearview mirror, tested in various conditions, improves driver visibility, especially in low visibility or rainy conditions. Polestar's commitment to useful innovation, as seen in the Polestar 4 and upcoming Polestar 5, is set to enhance driver experiences and sustainability in the automotive industry.
