Phones with elevated toxic metal levels were reportedly sold in Belarus
In a move to ensure consumer safety, the State Standard in Belarus has taken action against certain models of cordless and mobile phones produced by the Chinese brand teXet. The models in question, TX-234 and TX-236, have been deemed unsafe due to excessive amounts of toxic metals, particularly lead, in their solder.
The approximate prices for these models are Br34-60 for TX-234 and Br30-62 for TX-236. However, despite the ban, these models are still available for purchase online.
This decision follows previous findings of potentially life-threatening household appliances, where a coffee grinder without the required insulation protection, a robot vacuum with insufficient heat-resistant conductive parts, fitness lamps that created unsafe electromagnetic interference, and certain stationary phones were added to the Register of Hazardous Products and are now banned from import, sale, and circulation in Belarus.
Unfortunately, there are no details available about specific dangerous stationary phones listed in the Register of Hazardous Products or their brand. The teXet brand, known for producing cordless phones and mobile phones, has unfortunately fallen under this category.
The teXet models in question are stationary phones, typically installed in offices and enterprises. These phone models exceed the safe limit of lead content in their solder. Specifically, TX-234 has 24.34% lead content, and TX-236 has 33.46% lead content, significantly higher than the 0.1% limit set by the State Standard.
The State Standard, in an effort to protect the public, has banned the import, sale, and circulation of these specific phone models in Belarus. It is crucial for consumers to be aware of these regulations and to prioritise safety when making purchasing decisions.
