Peek Inside Tesla's Latest Model Y, a Six-Seater Sports Utility Vehicle
Tesla's Model Y Long Range: A Spacious and Luxurious Six-Seater SUV
Tesla has unveiled the Model Y Long Range (Model Y L), an extended version of its popular Model Y SUV. This new variant offers a six-seater configuration, designed to deliver luxury, comfort, and practicality, while maintaining the Model Y's iconic performance.
The Model Y L boasts a six-seat "2+2+2" layout, featuring six individual seats for improved accessibility and rear passenger comfort. The front seats have been redesigned for enhanced comfort, offering adjustable headrests, lumbar support, and leg-rest extensions. The middle row consists of captain's chairs with powered armrests, providing a premium seating experience.
The Model Y L's cabin, with its black headliner and new door panels, exudes a sleek, modern look. Subtle design touches make the interior feel more upscale than the standard Model Y. Additional vents have been added to the C-pillar in the third row, ensuring improved airflow and comfort for passengers in the back.
The Model Y L is approximately 180 mm (7 inches) longer, 24 mm (1 inch) taller, and has a 150 mm (6 inch) longer wheelbase than the regular Model Y. This extended size translates to extra comfort and cargo space, with up to 2,539 liters of storage space available.
The Model Y L's dual electric motors produce slightly more power—142 kW front and 198 kW rear—compared to the standard Model Y, compensating for the added weight. Despite its larger size, the Model Y L is estimated to have a range of around 751 km (466 miles) in the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC), comparable to the regular Model Y. This impressive range is likely due to an 82 kWh battery pack.
The Model Y L promises faster performance, with a reported 0–100 km/h acceleration in about 4.5 seconds, making it faster than other Model Y AWD versions. The Model Y L also benefits from continuously variable damping suspension for improved ride comfort.
The Model Y L's interior is equipped with electric armrests on second-row seats, enhanced phone chargers, and a new interior light strip. The cabin, with its glass roof, feels airy and temperature-controlled.
Tesla has posted a teaser video stating that the Model Y L is "coming soon." However, the release date for the Model Y L has not been officially announced yet. The Model Y L will initially be released in China from August 2025 with deliveries starting September 2025. It will be priced at about 339,000 yuan (~$47,000 USD / AU$72,700).
With its luxury upgrades, spacious interior, and improved performance, the Model Y L distinguishes itself from the regular Model Y and even the Model X in some aspects. The Model Y L's global availability could broaden its appeal even further, making it an exciting addition to Tesla's lineup.
