Overlooked Aspect in the Latest Honda Prelude That Sparks Debate Among Enthusiasts
The automotive world is abuzz with anticipation for the upcoming sixth-generation Honda Prelude. Scheduled to release in the next two years, the new Prelude promises a blend of modernity and sporting heritage, inspired by the linear togetherness of acrobatic flight and the sleekness of gliders [1][5].
The design of the 2026 Prelude features slim LED headlights, a wide front grille with sporty cues, and a forward-heavy yet sleek silhouette that hints at its front-wheel-drive layout [1][3]. Some observers have noted an unofficial resemblance to the Renault Laguna Coupe, a French front-wheel-drive coupe produced from 2008 to 2015, but Honda has not confirmed this as a stated design inspiration [3].
Under the hood, the Prelude will feature a hybrid drivetrain similar to the Honda Civic e:HEV. This system will be powered by a 2.0-liter normally aspirated four-banger, complemented by a potent e-motor [6]. This hybrid powertrain will make the Prelude more potent than any Civic or Integra, even surpassing the Type-R/Type-S models [2].
However, the Prelude's internal-combustion engine can turn off, providing limited electric range due to its smaller battery (1.05-kWh) compared to the Civic e:HEV's (2.2-kWh) [1].
The new Prelude is expected to achieve around 49 MPG combined (EPA) based on the Civic e:HEV numbers. The expected starting MSRP of the Honda Prelude is $31,000 [4].
In addition to the standard model, at least two performance variants of the Honda Prelude are expected to be released. At least one of these performance variants could feature all-wheel drive [7].
Meanwhile, the Acura Integra is also getting a refresh for 2026. However, it will be a five-door hatchback, similar to its previous iterations, which may not meet fan expectations [8].
