Christoph Wagner, head of waterworks at Municipal Utilities Düsseldorf, explains the principle of the Brumisateur. When the temperature reaches 29 degrees Celsius, the Brumisateur activates 14 nozzles and sprays approximately 1.1 liters of water per minute, cooling the surrounding area through water evaporation.
The Brumisateur, standing at 2.5 meters high, 1.2 meters wide, and 60 centimeters deep, cools the nearby area within a five-meter radius by several degrees Celsius. This innovative cooling system is particularly effective in higher temperatures and lower relative humidity, making it an ideal solution for Düsseldorf's hot summer days.
The choice of the church square for the test operation is strategic. The square heats up significantly during a heatwave, making it an ideal location to test the Brumisateur's cooling capabilities.
