Opening Up a User-friendly Design Arena Unlike Canva

Our platform, initially lacking in accessibility features, began receiving requests for them approximately two years ago. Recognising the need, we embarked on a mission to make our platform more accessible, catering to a wide range of groups, including businesses, educators, and designers new to creating accessible designs.

In comparison to platforms like Canva, our platform stands out for its priority on accessibility from the outset. We offer an array of features designed to enhance accessibility, such as an in-built accessibility checker, AI-alt text generator, visual simulator, and color contrast checker. Canva, while popular, falls short in this regard, particularly in terms of accurate translation of heading levels to PDF exports.

Our color contrast checker provides instant contrast ratios, making it easier for users to get the color contrast right. Users are also prompted with explanations about the importance of certain accessibility features, such as proper heading structure and color contrast, while working on a design.

The built-in accessibility checker automatically scans designs for areas that don't meet accessibility standards and offers recommendations for improvement. Our platform also provides a range of accessible templates to guide users towards accessibility throughout the design process.

Building accessibility into our platform involved rethinking the entire user experience and educating ourselves about WCAG guidelines, alt-text, color contrast, and other technical nuances of accessibility. Our platform offers more than just crisp templates, addressing the need for inclusive content creation in today's digital landscape.

Companies like Elementor have also recognised the importance of accessibility, developing design platforms that go beyond beautiful templates by integrating additional functionalities crucial for creating accessible content, such as ARIA labels, alternative texts for images, keyboard navigation support, and tools for checking color contrast and compliance with accessibility laws.

The platform prioritised accessibility over advanced AI features, diverting significant resources and extending development timelines. The AI alt text generator helps users add context to images, making them accessible to those with visual impairments.

Our platform now offers built-in accessibility checks, automatic alt text generation, and user education to guide users towards creating accessible designs. The platform continues to prioritise user education on accessibility best practices, adding educational content and prompts within the platform at relevant stages of the design process.

The platform's focus on accessibility has allowed it to create a more user-friendly experience for all. Creating accessible design expands the reach of content to everyone, regardless of abilities. It also has a positive impact on business, as audiences notice a brand that cares about every user.

Looking ahead, the platform is gearing up to further enhance accessibility through strategic initiatives, including the integration of complex diagramming capabilities and the refinement of automatic generation of alt text for images and charts. Accessible design is not just a trend, but a necessity in today's digital world, and our platform is committed to leading the way.
