Ontario's iGaming earnings hit CA$3.20 billion in fiscal year 2024-2025
Taking a Deep Dive into Ontario's Booming Online Gambling Scene
Last week, iGaming Ontario released their findings from the third year of regulated online gambling, spanning from April 2024 to March 2025. This market was opened up in April 2022, and the numbers have been nothing short of impressive.
The 2024-25 figures smashed the CA$2.4 billion reported in the second year of legal online gambling in Ontario, marking a 129% increase over the market's initial year, which generated CA$1.40 billion.
Let's break it down: CA$2.40 billion of the total revenue was attributed to casino gambling, with a whopping 36% year-on-year growth. Betting revenue jumped 23% to CA$724.0 million, but online poker revenue remained steady at CA$66.0 million.
In terms of consumer spending, total online wagers reached CA$82.7 billion. This marked a 31% increase from the previous year. Casino drew the most wagers, with total spend reaching CA$69.6 billion, up 34%. Betting wagers also rose 17% to CA$11.4 billion, while poker spend edged up 2% to CA$1.7 billion.
Interestingly, the final quarter of the year proved to be a record-breaker for Ontario. Revenue hit an all-time high of CA$903 million in the three months to 31 March, while wagers reached CA$22.9 billion.
As of now, players in Ontario can gamble online across 84 websites run by 49 licensed operators. Heidi Reinhart, iGaming Ontario chair, expressed her delight, stating, "These results show Ontario is home to a truly dynamic igaming market with a strong roster of operators, and a world-class list of games available for players."
In a shift, Ontario now publishes monthly reports for online gambling data, with the first set of figures for February being released last month, and the figures for March released this week. In March, total iGaming revenue was CA$294.8 million, marking a 22.3% year-on-year increase and a 5.3% rise compared to February.
Looking at the specifics, Casino generated CA$240.3 million of all revenue, betting came in at CA$47.9 million, and poker was at CA$6.6 million. When it comes to spending, wagers in March amounted to CA$7.94 billion, representing a 27.2% year-on-year rise. Casino gaming accounted for CA$6.6 billion, betting clocked in at CA$1.12 billion, and poker was at CA$148 million.
A total of 1.1 million player accounts were active during March, with the average revenue per active account at CA$278. It's worth noting that these figures cover all operators that have an agreement in place with iGaming Ontario, but exclude the OLG iGaming offering and pari-mutuel wagering on horse racing.
- The quarterly average revenue per active account in Ontario's online gambling scene, as reported by iGaming Ontario, reached an impressive CA$278 in March 2025.
- The boom in Ontario's online gambling market has been fueled in part by the adoption of technology, resulting in a dynamic market with a strong roster of operators and a vast array of games for players.
- Despite the steady growth in online poker revenue, other categories such as betting and casino gambling have seen significant increases, with betting revenue jumping 23% and casino revenue attributing 36% year-on-year growth in the 2024-25 period.
