The Barnes & Noble NOOK Color, a 9-inch tablet, is making waves in the market. Unlike traditional e-readers, this device is designed to offer a rich reading experience while also supporting multimedia features typical of tablets.

The NOOK Color runs on Android 13, boasting a fingerprint-resistant touchscreen, vivid colour display, and dual Dolby Atmos speakers. It also features Bluetooth connectivity. However, its primary purpose is to deliver a captivating reading experience for books, magazines, newspapers, and manga through the pre-loaded NOOK app.

Immersive reading modes and audiobook playback are among its key features, making it more than just an e-reader. It's a full-featured tablet optimized for reading and multimedia.

This sets it apart from other Barnes & Noble e-readers like the GlowLight 4 Plus, which are primarily grayscale e-readers with features such as e-ink displays, long battery life for reading, and waterproofing. The NOOK Color, on the other hand, offers more typical tablet capabilities (Android OS, apps, media playback) alongside optimized reading modes.

William Lynch, CEO of Barnes & Noble, describes the NOOK Color as a device for people who love to read everything, but it is not labeled as an e-reader or a tablet. Instead, it is presented as a tablet optimized for a premium reading and multimedia experience.

Pre-ordered units of the NOOK Color will be delivered on November 19. With its versatility, enabling wireless web browsing and streaming music, the NOOK Color is set to redefine the reading experience for many.
