Nissan's Qashqai e-Power model reportedly delivers an impressive driving range of 937 miles on a single tank of fuel.
Nissan's New Qashqai e-Power: A Fuel-Efficient Solution Amid Sales Challenges
Nissan is facing a sales slump in the UK and European markets, but the Japanese automaker is hoping to turn things around with the introduction of the new Qashqai e-Power.
The new Qashqai e-Power recently completed an impressive 837-mile news journey from Land's End to John O'Groats with fuel still in the tank, delivering an impressive 75mpg during the journey. Harry Metcalfe and Dean Driver, two drivers who took turns behind the wheel, praised the new powertrain for its smooth, quiet drive and impressive range.
The new Qashqai e-Power powertrain features a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 187bhp electric motor, which together offer a claimed thermal efficiency of 42%. The powertrain has an estimated economy of 62mpg and a range of up to 745 miles. Additionally, it emits just 102g/km of CO2, making it a more environmentally-friendly news option.
Despite being a hybrid vehicle, the new Qashqai will not be an all-electric vehicle. Instead, it will come with two Alternative Fuel Vehicle (AFV) powertrains. The new engine in the Qashqai e-Power powertrain is the only AFV option available for the next generation Qashqai, which is expected to arrive later next year.
The new Qashqai e-Power powertrain will be available from September 2022, and it will have the same price as the old Qashqai e-Power. Nissan took the opportunity to showcase the new powertrain during the Land's End to John O'Groats journey, which was completed over two days and a total of 18 hours of driving.
Despite the success of the new Qashqai e-Power powertrain, Nissan is still facing challenges in the UK and European markets. The plans for the new Qashqai were originally intended for 2020, but were delayed due to Covid and Ghosn. The new Qashqai will not be an all-new model, as the original plans were scrapped. There won't be an electric Qashqai in the next generation.
The reveal of the new Nissan Qashqai is soon, and it is expected to be a significant step forward for the automaker in the UK and European markets. The Qashqai has been a popular model for Nissan, and the new e-Power powertrain could help to boost sales and improve the automaker's image as a leader in fuel-efficient and environmentally-friendly vehicles.
