Nissan Unveils First-Ever Electrified Ute, Frontier Pro PHEV
Nissan has unveiled its first-ever electrified ute, the Frontier Pro PHEV, at the Shanghai Auto Show. Production is set to begin in China by late 2025, with regional availability yet to be confirmed.
The Frontier Pro is unrelated to the American-spec Frontier and the next-generation Navara. It is jointly developed by Zhengzhou Nissan (ZNA) and shares underpinnings with the Dongfeng Z9, featuring distinct Nissan design cues.
The electric ute boasts a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a powerful electric motor, delivering a total system output exceeding 300kW and 800Nm. It offers a claimed 135km EV-only range on the CLTC cycle and supports four drive modes: Hybrid, EV, Performance, and Snow.
Inside, the cabin features a 14.6-inch infotainment screen, a 10-inch digital cluster, and optional comfort features like heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats. The Frontier Pro also integrates an electromechanical rear differential lock and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, outputting up to 6kW.
Nissan aims for global reach with the Frontier Pro, likely targeting markets where electrified utes are on the rise, such as North America and parts of Asia. The Frontier Pro is part of Nissan's broader electrification strategy, with nine new NEVs to be released in China by 2027. Production of the Frontier Pro will start in China by late 2025, with regional availability yet to be confirmed.
