Nio Expands Battery Swap Network in China with New Partnership

Nio, a leading Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has announced plans to add 100 battery swap stations in northeast China and Jiangsu province, marking a significant expansion of its existing network. The new agreement was signed between Nio Power, Nio's energy division, and Jiangsu Financial Leasing.

The deal, signed in Nanjing, the capital city of Jiangsu, is part of Nio's ambitious "Power Up Counties" plan, which aims to provide battery swap coverage in all counties across 27 Chinese provinces by the end of 2025. This plan was first announced at the Nio Power Up 2024 event held on August 20, 2024.

As of mid-2025, Nio operates approximately 3,442 battery swap stations across China, with about 1,003 of those located along highways. These stations provide a total of 13,555 superchargers and 13,407 charging piles, in addition to 1,781 destination charging stations. The company has reached a milestone of 80 million cumulative battery swaps in July 2025, averaging close to 97,000 swaps per day.

The new partnership with Jiangsu Financial Leasing is not the first large-scale battery swap station construction agreement for Nio. Since October last year, Nio Power has signed four similar agreements, reflecting the company's commitment to expanding its charging and battery swap network.

In addition to the battery swap stations, Nio's charging map integrates more than 1.31 million third-party charging points, creating a multi-faceted charging ecosystem. The energy division, Nio Power, drives the rollout, combining infrastructure construction with innovative financial and business solutions focused on supporting sub-brands like Onvo.

The collaboration between Nio Power and Jiangsu Financial Leasing is not limited to the construction of battery swap stations. The parties will also deepen cooperation in capital, technology, and business models. In the field of automotive financial services, the two parties will customize sales financing solutions for Nio's Onvo sub-brand.

This partnership not only increases the density of Nio's network locally but is intended as a replicable model nationwide. It is expected to make the region's network of battery swap stations more dense, supporting China's low-carbon energy goals and contributing to grid balancing and renewable energy integration.

In summary, Nio’s battery swap network in China is highly developed and operationally significant, with ongoing plans for rapid expansion and comprehensive county-level coverage by the end of 2025, backed by new strategic partnerships and financing initiatives. The latest collaboration with Jiangsu Financial Leasing is a significant step towards achieving these goals.
