New Report: 2D Barcodes Boost Logistics Efficiency
A new report, 'Advancing Logistics Operations through Intelligent Data Capture', is now available at www.gs1us.org/logistics. The report highlights significant challenges and solutions in logistics operations, with a focus on the benefits of adopting 2D barcodes and global standards.
Poor label quality, inconsistent labeling, and outdated scanning systems lead to weekly barcode readability issues in 70% of logistics operations. To tackle these challenges, 47% of companies invest in 2D barcodes, driven by the desire for enhanced data exchange. GS1 US, the organization behind the report, enables companies to power their supply chains with safe, consistent, and trusted experiences. By combining GS1 Standards with 2D barcodes like QR codes and GS1 DataMatrix, companies can improve transparency, reduce labeling errors, and eliminate manual interventions. Intelligent data capture, driven by these technologies, is transforming logistics operations across various industries.
Companies aim to improve inventory management and asset tracking (36%) and increase transparency in sourcing and traceability (43%) by adopting these solutions. Notably, 2D barcodes store up to 7,000 characters, a significant leap from the 48 characters stored in one-dimensional barcodes.
The 'Advancing Logistics Operations through Intelligent Data Capture' report emphasizes the importance of adopting more-automated, standards-based data capture for efficient supply chain operations and resilience against disruptions. By embracing 2D barcodes and global standards, companies can enhance their logistics operations, improve inventory management, and increase transparency throughout their supply chains.
