Munich Airport Unveils Its New Electrical Vehicle Charging Parksite
Munich Airport has taken a significant step forward in promoting e-mobility by unveiling Bayern Munich's largest electric car charging park. The new facility, located in the P44 parking garage, boasts 275 charging points and is expected to triple the number of charging points at the airport by 2030.
The opening ceremony was graced by Bavarian Minister-President Dr. Markus Soeder, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Munich Airport, Minister of State for Finance and Home Affairs Albert Fuhracker, and Munich Airport CEO Jost Lammers. The new charging park, named as Bayern Munich's largest, is strategically placed opposite the LabCampus innovation hub, northwest of the airport.
Visitors can now charge their vehicles at one of the 138 charging stations provided on Level 4 of the P44 parking garage. Each charging station has a nominal output of 11kW and a maximum output of up to 22kW, ensuring efficient charging for various electric vehicles.
The charging park adopts an open approach to technology for e-mobility, promoting state-of-the-art drive systems. Power for the charging stations comes from photovoltaic systems on the roofs of both the P44 and P43 parking garages. These photovoltaic systems, made up of 7,216 PV modules, each with a total maximum output of three megawatts, provide a sustainable energy source for the charging park.
Munich Airport, a gateway to e-mobility, has invested roughly 5.2 million EUR into the project. In addition to the charging park, the airport has introduced free parking for electric cars, further encouraging the adoption of e-mobility.
Bayern, the German federal state with the most electric cars, is leading the way in e-mobility. The new charging park at Munich Airport is a testament to Bayern's commitment to sustainable mobility solutions. The airport aims to play a pioneering role in e-charging parks and is committed to not imposing rigid bans on e-mobility technologies.
With the opening of Bayern Munich's largest electric car charging park, Munich Airport continues to set an example for other airports and cities in promoting e-mobility and sustainable transportation solutions.
